Madison Traditional Academy (MTA) is the only preschool - 8th grade school in the Madison School District. Due to the traditional philosophy, MTA was created as a "school of choice", and has no neighborhood boundaries. MTA accepts students based on the open enrollment policy of the Madison School District. Families must meet the behavior, attendance and family volunteer requirement to continue enrollment each year.

MTA’s curriculum is rooted in teacher-directed instruction and emphasizes a structured, sequential approach to learning. The language arts program features explicit phonics and comprehension instruction. Reveal Math provides a rigorous, problem-based framework that fosters advanced mathematical thinking, with all students receiving instruction one year above grade level, beginning with first-grade math in kindergarten. In addition to academics, MTA maintains a school-wide uniform policy, requires family volunteer participation, and implements Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to promote strong character development and consistent behavior expectations.

All academics for Kindergarten are taught in the morning, with the afternoon being a fee based program, working with students on remediation and enrichment of skills. Kindergarten students, who participate in the paid afternoon program, also receive instruction in physical education, general music and art and also participate in the school lunch program.

Anyone wishing to attend Madison Traditional Academy must submit an open enrollment application to be eligible for the lottery.
