MTA Family Commitment
Madison Traditional Academy (MTA) Family Commitment
Parental involvement is an integral, required component in both the success of our students and the ongoing success of MTA. Students who witness their parents/legal guardians become a part of their school community quickly learn that intellectual development through education is a life-long pursuit.
MTA is a “School of Choice,” meaning geographical boundaries do not define it, and parents/legal guardians have freely chosen to send their children here. Because MTA is a “School of Choice,” the MTA community has developed the following rules and regulations that govern our families concerning their obligations to MTA and, thereby, to each other. Please review the following MTA Family Commitment carefully, understanding that your family’s ongoing participation and child’s enrollment at MTA are expressly contingent upon your fulfillment of these promises.
As a parent/legal guardian and a responsible family member in the MTA community, I commit to adhering to these behavior standards. I shall meet the minimum requirements of participation as follows:
- I will strive to communicate the importance of education to my children enrolled at MTA and promote their interest in learning.
- I will consistently and actively monitor my children’s progress at MTA concerning their academic, social, and character development and promptly respond to all communications from MTA staff and faculty regarding the same. Further, I will promptly notify my child(ren)’s teacher, the MTA administration, or both whenever I have a concern regarding their education or behavior at MTA.
- I will treat all MTA staff, faculty, students, and families with respect and courtesy at all times and under all circumstances, acknowledging that our MTA community is one of voluntary association based on mutual participation and the fulfillment of our obligations to one another for the benefit of our students.
- I understand there is a requirement for my family to volunteer a minimum total of twenty (20) hours during the school year. Each family must complete at least 5 volunteer hours per 9 week quarter. I acknowledge that I am responsible for scheduling, performing, and documenting my service activities. I understand that the Office of the Principal shall maintain the definitive record of my service hours. I know that any extra hours will not carry over to the following school year and that I may not loan extra hours to other families. The Guild manages all volunteer hours, and all volunteers must register in Raptor, the school's volunteer tracking system.
- I will provide my child(ren) enrolled at MTA with a home environment conducive to daily learning and study, including adequate time for homework and a suitable workspace. Further, I will either read to my child(ren) or encourage them to read independently daily during the school week, as appropriate [20 minutes for Kindergarten through 3rd grade and 30 minutes for 4th through 8th grades].
- I have reviewed and will support the MSD Discipline Plan as described in the MSD Handbook (located on the MSD web page), agree that all children enrolled in MTA are subject to its provisions, and acknowledge its guiding tenet: any student (as a result of their behavior) which repeatedly disrupts the educational process in the classroom may be in jeopardy to have their open enrollment privileges revoked from MTA by the Office of the Principal.
- I will abide by the rules and regulations established by MTA regarding the student placement and the daily school schedule, including, but not limited to, the procedures governing prompt and regular attendance, tardiness, the timely picking up of my child(ren) at the end of the school day and the scheduling of conferences with teachers and faculty.
- ACKNOWLEDGEMENT I acknowledge that I have reviewed and understand the contents of this MTA Family Commitment Form and now accept the responsibility to meet these expectations. Further, I recognize MTA’s designation as a “School of Choice” and understand that MTA has an accelerated curriculum and a one-year advanced math program at every grade level. Finally, I agree that our family’s continued participation in the MTA community, including the enrollment of the student(s) listed below, is expressly contingent on fulfilling the promises and commitments I have made herein.
